PC - UPS connection

Hi,

I've a UPS with 4 IEC sockets.

I seem to be a little confused with the setup arrangement.

The 1st step I've done is to connect the PC cable into the UPS.

The 2nd step I've done is to connect the UPS cable into a 6-way power board.

The 3rd step I've done is plug the Powerboard into the mains socket.

Also I've plugged into the Powerboard five other devices.

My question with this setup is how many devices do i have protected? The UPS works, i suspect that the only protected device is the PC.

Is it better to plug the UPS cable straight into the mains socket.

Your advice would be very much appreciated.

Makes no difference.

I am a fervent believer in a UPS.
I can't tell you how many times it saved my bacon.
You have to plug in your monitor (and ONLY the PC and monitor nothing else, well maybe your router, they don't draw much power) into the UPS otherwise you won't
be able to shut down when the power is off, unless you have a UPS with programmable shut down.

Never ever plug a Laser printer into a UPS!!

What is the reason for not plugging in a Laser printer.

Also when an incident occurs such as the main power going off will the PC by using the battery as a backup stay on.

I've a feeling in a case like this that the PC will shut down.

They draw too much current when actually working, normal UPS can usually supply 450 to 600 watts enough for the PC and one monitor.

Yes it will switch over to the UPS

I've a feeling in a case like this that the PC will shut down.

If you have one like I do with the shut down software built in yes, it will.
If it's not an automatic one then it will stay on for as long as the UPS battery has power, usually about five to ten minutes.

It is a good idea to actually try it for yourself, because all PCs are different. When the UPS is fully charged, turn off the mains power to the UPS and
time it until you can hear the urgent alarm, mine goes from a few beeps to a continuous beep.
