Well, firefox and extensions for one

Postby anandasim » Thu Jul 03, 2008 9:08 pm

Firefox 3 made me sit up and trash some extensions that were giving trouble and review what I wanted and what worked. At one time, the fashion was to put up our favourite extensions. I haven't revised that page for a long time. Here's tonight's snapshot off one machine.

- Adblock Filterset.G Updater 0.3.1.3 - Synchronizes Adblock with Filterset.G
- Adblock Plus 0.7.5.5 - Ads were yesterday!
- Better Gmail 2 0.5 - Enhances the new Gmail interface with Greasemonkey user scripts. All scripts copyright their original authors. Click on the script homepage in the About tab for help and more information.
- ColorfulTabs 3.1 - Colorful Tabs colors every tab in a different color and makes them easy to distinguish while beautifying the overall appeal of the interface.
- Delicious Bookmarks 2.0.64 - Access your bookmarks wherever you go and keep them organized no matter how many you have.
- Download Statusbar 0.9.6.3 - View and manage downloads from a tidy statusbar
- DownThemAll! 1.0.3 - The mass downloader for Firefox.
- English (Australian) Dictionary 2.1.1 - I'm sick of all my favoUrite coloUrful language being marked incorrect.
- Exif Viewer 1.45 - Extracts and displays the Exif (Exchangeable Image File), IPTC-NAA/IIM (International Press Telecommunications Council / Newspaper Association of America / Information Interchange Model), and IPTC Core (Adobe XMP, Extensible Metadata Platform) metadata, as stored by digital still cameras, in both local and remote JPEG images.
- FireShot 0.50 - Adds the ability to take a screenshot of the page, edit it and save, copy to clipboard, send to external editor or e-mail it.
- Google Notebook 1.0.0.20 - Allows notetaking while browsing
- Greasemonkey 0.8.20080609.0 - A User Script Manager for Firefox
- HYPER-ANCHOR 0.1.08062500 - Helps you to bookmark specific positions in a Web page by using XPath instead of using only the URL.
- Hyperwords 4.0 - Makes every word on the web interactive.
- IE View Lite 1.3.3 - Cut down version of IE View by Paul Roub.
- It's All Text! 0.8.5 - Edit text using your favorite editor!
- McAfee SiteAdvisor 26.6 - A McAfee SiteAdvisor Firefox Extension for safe searching and browsing
- Menu Editor 1.2.6 - Customize application menus
- MR Tech Toolkit (formerly Local Install) 6.0.1 - MR Tech Toolkit power tools for all users. (en-US)
- OperaView 0.6.1 - Open pages in Opera from Firefox, Mozilla, Flock and Netscape 8 context menus.
- Password Exporter 1.1 - Export and import your saved passwords.

Oops... hadn't quite finished...
Anandasim - do you really have all of those extensions at once?
To those responsible, "Well Done" on the new forum look - I like it.

Yup. My Fox is really fat. Some days, it doesn't feel like waking up. :D

The Tree Style Tabs is new to me, enjoying it as even on a 4:3 screen, the screen is wider than it is tall, so I get some height back and use normally "wasted" width for tabs. However, it does like to keep a heap of tabs and pages open which can be confusing. The parent-child hierarchy is an interesting effect though.

I've got about 20 extensions (too many, must get rid of the ones I don't use), but the four I could not do without are :-

Noscript
FEBE 5.0 (backup for Firefox extensions, settings etc)
Paste and Go 2
Scrapbook (saves webpages exactly as they are)

Speeddial? Had it, used it, put it away, now I'm trying it again Baz. I think I neglected it because my Fox kept showing the wrong URL at the top of the screen after it was installed. Giving it another try.

Here's a fellow who decided to try 200 extensions for a lark.

I've just managed to get back 5mm of height by manually removing a toolbar (LinuxToolbar) - the developer was kind enough, eventually to give manual removal directions.

Now, if only I could afford that Dell 24" LCD....

Del.icio.us & Greasemonkey & Operator are my 'Top 3' Firefox Extensions I use.
Operator :-
"Operator leverages microformats and other semantic data that are already available on many web pages to provide new ways to interact with web services."

Long Description:- Operator lets you combine pieces of information on Web sites with applications in ways that are useful. For instance, Flickr + Google Maps, Upcoming + Google Calendar, Yahoo! Local + your address book, and many more possibilities and permutations. All of these scenarios are possible due to Microformats, an emerging standard for injecting semantics into HTML.
