Satellite broadband usage monitor

Postby telco2005 » Mon Jul 12, 2010 12:02 pm

Hi not sure where to post this query (hardware - software); I've been broadband connected 12 months via satellite because in remote area (Lyonville Vic 3461), internet connection seems spasmodic, frequent dropouts, sometimes unable to connect at all; just recently plugged in crossover ethernet twisted pair cables to connect modem & computer to wireless Airport router (I have a Mac as well as PC), improved considerably; I wondered whether there was some hardware/software that I could use to monitor performance, barring power failures (which are frequent in these parts - maybe I should install a UPS too?); I'm frequently away from home but leave system running, I would love to be able to pinpoint exact times when internet access is delayed/ unavailable or dropouts occur, to present to ISP (Active8 - locked in to 3 year contract under govt broadband subsidy - they're reluctant to send technician out here (100km NNW from Melbourne) - any suggestions??
