Google Chrome Operating System!

Google have announced they are developing a computer operating system to rival Microsoft's Windows.
"Google Chrome OS will be aimed initially at small, low-cost netbooks, but will eventually be used on PCs as well.

"Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform."

"For Microsoft the news comes just months before it launches the latest version of its operating system, called Windows 7."

As I stated before, I'm no great fan of MS, but the day MS will be eliminated when I can write code in c# or VB on a computer running a different OS without any intermediary applications, and my clients can also run my apps.

Hope it will be soon, but I doubt it.
A Google Chrome OS will be successful though, provided it will be simpler to install and run, than Linux, because a lot of people use their computers only to write a few letters and mostly to surf the net.

Although C# has been offered to standards by MS, we need to look after that genius, Anders Hjelsberg so that he can his MS team can keep on going. VB.NET and VBA are however, sadly, proprietary MS.

Journo taking liberties. The only thing the browser has in common with an OS is that both will be branded "Chrome" - riding on the coat tails of the success of the browser. It's like saying "I like the razor so much, I bought the company".
