Firefox update patches holes, breaks Roboform
The new Firefox version 1.5.0.4 fixes 13 security holes, which is a good thing indeed, but unfortunately the RoboForm toolbar no longer works.
We've been using RoboForm increasingly to memorise log-ins and passwords, having finally been convinced by Jeremy Howard that it was absolutely indispensable for the online lifestyle, so having it snatched away from us like that is most inconvenient. We had the most recent adapter, so we're not sure what's going on.
Obviously, this is one of the downsides to the growing fashion for imbedding applications into the browser.

Have you tried installing Nightly Tester Tools to force compatibility?

RoboForm might not work, but "Password Maker" available form https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/469/ or http://passwordmaker.org/ does work fine for me.

Nightly Tester Tools looks interesting:
"This extension adds a few extras useful to those that regularly test nightly builds of Firefox, Thunderbird and the Application Suite.
This extension now works on branch builds of Firefox and Thunderbird.
Features:
- Allows you to install incompatible extensions.
- Allows you to force the application to believe an extension is compatible with the current version and enable it.
- Allows copying the build identifier and a list of installed extensions to the clipboard.
- Adds a toolbar button to let you insert the build identifier into the current text box (Not supported in the Application Suite).
- Lets you customise the title bar to include the build identifier and other information."

Picked it up early today in the Forum. Thanks for telling me about SeaMonkey as well 'extulit' - it's my browser of choice.

You could use KeePass instead, then all of your passwords would be in one place and they would be portable.
cheers, Paul

So many FF extensions to choose from! The range and number of them has grown to stupendous proportions. At the time of the FF 1.0 release there was only about a hundred but now there's probably three times that and counting.
There's now so many that it's difficult to learn if something new has arrived that might suit one's needs. Word of mouth, or rather text of forum/blog, is a very helpful guide to assist selection from the superabundance available.
The range of extensions tremendously amplifies the power and utility of the FF browser platform. Whilst I agree with what Ananda had to say in the BE forum recently on the value of a trio of browsers including IE and Opera, the FF platform is hard to beat as a primary browser. It is awesome.
Recently I went on a haphazard trawl through the list of available extensions at Firefox Add-ons. How about eQuake Alert?
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2239/ By linking to the US Geological Service, when an earthquake is detected anywhere in the world the browser shakes proportionally to the magnitude of the quake. It's an earthquake chaser's dream come true.

Fox is Good. I've evolved my view - a week in IT is a long time ;-) , as I have done from last year. But then there are people or orgs who don't get it. Don't worry, Be Happy

Don't despair for the poor benighted Mac users, Ananda. God invented Camino for them.
